About Us

During early 20th Century, many people belonging to the Vishwakarma Community from Kerala migrated to places in and around Mangalore in search of a better life. All of these belong to five sub-castes such as blacksmiths, carpenters, coppersmiths, sculptors and the goldsmiths. Traditionally, the Vishwakarma community has always had unique position in the Hindu religion and has produced some of the finest artisans serving various walks of life with great accomplishments in the field of architecture, sculptor, designers etc.

However, as there was no common platform to express the grievances faced by these artisans settled in and around Mangalore, an attempt was initiated to unite all these artisans under a common platform during the year 1967. This paved the way to the formation of an association then known as Kerala Vishwakarma Sanghatana. Over the years, the Sanghatana went through the troubled waters and at one point of time it was inactive for a brief period due to various reasons. It was during the year 2010, a few like minded people from our community took a decision to revive the association and pledged unconditional support to keep the association alive. Thus revamped the same.

Karnataka Malayali Vishwakarma Samajam(KMVS), Mangalore is the association of the artisans community originally from Kerala and are settled in and around Mangalore. The members of the association belong to the five sub-castes such as blacksmiths, carpenters, coppersmiths, sculptors and the goldsmiths.

The Vishwakarma community has an illustrious history beginning from ancient times to modern ages serving various walks of life with great accomplishments. The community has produced outstanding personalities in the form of architects, sculptors, painters, designers, etc. However, the community did not get the due recognition from any quarters due to lack of proper representation.

Today the association has diversified into various branches like Marriage Bureau, Women's Wing, Youth Wing, lending financial assistance to needy etc..

WOMEN'S WING : Women’s wing headed by Smt. Shashi Rekha and Smt. Rajani consists of about 25 members and will assist the core committee in all operational aspects. The wing is headed by Ms. Anjana and Mr. Vipin and has a team of 20 members assisting them. The team takes care of all cultural/sports activities in consultation with core committee.

As part of this, KMVS is organizing regular meetings in nearby districts to motivate them to be part of this movement. Our goal is to bring the community together for knowing each other, sharing views, forming opinion about various issues related to our community and evolving a common identity for ourselves. Today, the association has more than 300 families as members and is in the process of further widening its reach among the community members. As part of membership drive, we intend to visit every household of our community, enroll as many members as possible and create a strong database of our community.
